Your Stress Score measures your body's response to daily challenges using heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV), and your Battery Score reflects your overall energy reserves: how your body balances physical stress and recovery. Together they show how your day is charging and draining you, from the night's sleep to a stressful afternoon to a hard workout.

Stress

Your Stress Score measures your body's physical response to daily challenges using heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) data. It provides insights into moments of tension or relaxation, so you can see how your body reacts throughout the day and overnight. It reflects what your heart is doing, not your mood, and isn't a medical or mental-health assessment.

How Stress Is Measured

FITIV's Stress Score is calculated on a scale from 0 to 100 from your heart rate and HRV in Apple Health, compared with your own baselines, and tracked throughout your day and night:

  • Low Stress Levels: indicate periods of relaxation or recovery, showing your body is in a balanced state.
  • High Stress Levels: reflect moments of tension or exertion. If your Battery Score is low, consider focusing on stress management techniques or lighter activities.
  • Passive Stress: elevated heart rate outside of a recorded workout session, indicating your body's reaction to non-workout challenges.

On the Stress screen, each part of your day falls into one of four levels:

Stress levelScore
LowUnder 25
Moderate25–50
Elevated50–75
HighOver 75

You'll also see your current, lowest, and highest stress for the day, separate gauges for while you were asleep and awake, and how much time you spent at each level. Recorded workouts and mindful sessions are marked on the chart but kept out of your Stress numbers, so the score reflects the rest of your day.

How to Lower Your Stress

Incorporate stress management techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or short breaks during periods of high stress to maintain balance. Lowering stress can support recovery and performance.

Battery

FITIV's Battery Score is personalized and adapts to your sleep, daily activity, and stress, helping you make informed decisions to manage energy, reduce fatigue, and maintain a balance between physical stress and recovery.

How Battery Is Measured

FITIV's Battery Score runs from 0 to 100 and carries over from day to day, so a short night or a stressful stretch can show up in your energy the next morning:

  • Sleep: the primary way to recharge your Battery, replenishing energy reserves overnight. Naps count too.
  • Daily Activities: physical activity and stress drain your Battery, gradually reducing energy throughout the day. Workouts drain it through the effort they put on your heart.

The Battery screen shows how much you Charged and Drained today, your peak Battery, and a chart with your sleep, workouts, and mindful sessions marked, plus how each one changed your Battery.

How to Use Your Battery Score

  • Low Battery: focus on low-intensity or active recovery activities to conserve energy and support recovery.
  • High Battery: you have energy to spare for harder training. Check your Training Readiness before you push your limits, since it also accounts for your Recovery and recent Strain.

How Stress and Battery Affect Training Readiness

Battery is one of the inputs to your daily Training Readiness, alongside Recovery, Strain, and your training load balance. When your Battery runs low, FITIV lowers your Readiness and tells you why with a note that your battery level is reducing your readiness. Stress affects Readiness through your Battery: a stressful day drains it, and a good night's sleep recharges it.

Where You'll See Stress and Battery

  • Today screen: Battery and Stress cards side by side. Tap either for the full day's chart.
  • Widgets: Battery, Stress, and combined Battery and Stress widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen.
  • Apple Watch: your Battery and Stress on the FITIV watch app and as complications.
  • Sharing: share your Battery or Stress as a card.

Stress and Battery work from the heart rate in Apple Health. Apple Watch is the most common source, and wearing it day and night gives you the fullest picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Stress and Battery in FITIV?

Stress shows how your body is responding through the day, from your heart rate and HRV. Battery is your running energy level: sleep charges it, and stress and activity drain it over the day.

Does sleep recharge my Battery?

Yes. Sleep is the primary way to recharge your Battery, and naps count too. A short or restless night means less recharge, which can carry into the next day.

Do workouts count toward my Stress Score?

Recorded workouts are marked on your Stress chart but kept out of your Stress numbers, so the score reflects the rest of your day. Workouts do drain your Battery.

Can meditation lower my stress?

It can help. Meditation, slow breathing, and short breaks can calm your heart rate and lift your HRV, and a calmer stretch afterward shows up as lower stress. Mindful sessions saved to Apple Health are marked on your Stress chart.

Does a low Battery affect my Training Readiness?

Yes. When your Battery runs low, FITIV lowers your Training Readiness and tells you that your battery level is reducing it.
