Using FITIV Pulse with Fitbit

Fitbit Air has no screen, so during a workout your heart rate is just a number you have to look up. FITIV Pulse turns that signal into a full workout: live heart rate zones, time in each zone, calories, Strain, and training load, on your iPhone with no Apple Watch required. Fitbit works with FITIV in two ways:

  1. Live heart rate during workouts: Fitbit Air shares its heart rate over Bluetooth, and FITIV uses it like any Bluetooth heart rate monitor
  2. Your Fitbit data through Google Health: FITIV connects directly to Google Health and brings in the workouts, steps, sleep, and heart rate your Fitbit tracks

Method 1: Live Heart Rate from Fitbit Air

Step 1: Turn On Heart Rate Sharing in Google Health

  1. Open the Google Health app on your iPhone
  2. Tap Connections, then your Fitbit Air
  3. Tap Share heart rate, then Get started
  4. Turn on Always visible so FITIV can find your band each time you start a workout (Google notes this uses more battery)

While sharing is on, your Fitbit Air broadcasts standard Bluetooth heart rate, the same signal a chest strap sends.

Step 2: Connect Fitbit Air in FITIV

  1. Open FITIV and go to the Workout tab
  2. Tap the device banner at the bottom to open Workout Tracking
  3. Under Bluetooth Sensors, tap Discover & Manage Sensors
  4. Tap your band under Discovered Sensors to add it to My Sensors
  5. Go back to Workout Tracking and tap your band to use it for workouts
  6. Start a workout and check that your heart rate is coming through

FITIV uses one heart rate source per workout, so if you also wear an Apple Watch, choose which one to track with before you start.

What You Get in Every Workout

With your Fitbit Air as the heart rate source, FITIV treats the workout like any other:

  • Live heart rate and zones: see your heart rate zones on your iPhone and on your Lock Screen with Live Activities
  • Voice Coaching that can tell you when you change zones or go above or below a heart rate you set
  • Time in each zone, average and maximum heart rate, and calories based on your heart rate
  • Daily Strain: your workout heart rate counts toward your Strain score for the day
  • Training load: each workout adds to your short- and long-term training load, which feeds your Training Readiness
  • Apple Health sync: the workout and its heart rate samples are saved to Apple Health

Pair it with FITIV's workout builder to follow structured intervals with live zone feedback from your band.

Stream Your Fitbit Heart Rate to Gym Equipment

Want your heart rate on a bike or rower display too? FITIV's Heart Rate Sync can rebroadcast the heart rate it's receiving to Peloton, Zwift, Concept2, and other equipment and apps that accept a Bluetooth heart rate signal.

Other Fitbit and Pixel Devices

Google says Fitbit Charge 6 (using HR on Equipment) and Pixel Watch 2 and later (using Connected Fitness) can also share real-time heart rate over Bluetooth. FITIV works with standard Bluetooth heart rate broadcasts, so these should appear under Discovered Sensors the same way. See Bluetooth heart rate monitors for more on how sensors connect.

Method 2: Connect Google Health

FITIV Pulse connects directly to Google Health, so the data your Fitbit syncs there comes into FITIV too:

  1. Open FITIV and tap the More tab (•••), then Google Health
  2. Tap Connect
  3. Choose the Google account linked to your Fitbit and allow access
  4. FITIV starts syncing your workouts, steps, sleep, and heart rate

The connection works both ways. With Workout Sync set to Auto, every workout you finish in FITIV saves to Google Health; set it to Manual to send individual workouts yourself. Wear an Apple Watch too? In Health Data Sources on the More tab, choose which source FITIV uses for each metric so nothing gets counted twice.

Recovery and Sleep with Fitbit

With Google Health connected, FITIV builds your Recovery and Sleep scores from your Fitbit data, and your Training Readiness tells you how hard to train each day. Recovery needs a few nights of sleep data to set your personal baseline, and your scores calibrate with the data your device provides, so the more you wear it, especially overnight, the more personal they get.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an Apple Watch to use Fitbit Air with FITIV?

No. Your iPhone and Fitbit Air are enough for live heart rate, zones, Strain, and training load during workouts. Connect Google Health in FITIV and you also get Recovery and Sleep scores built from your Fitbit data.

Does FITIV connect through the Google Health app?

For your workouts, steps, sleep, and heart rate, yes: connect Google Health from the More tab (•••) in FITIV. Live heart rate during a workout comes from your Fitbit Air directly over Bluetooth.

Can I use my Fitbit Air and Apple Watch at the same time?

FITIV uses one heart rate source per workout. Choose your Fitbit Air or your Apple Watch in Workout Tracking before you start.

Does FITIV work with other Fitbit models?

FITIV works with any device that broadcasts standard Bluetooth heart rate. Google says Fitbit Charge 6 and Pixel Watch 2 and later can share heart rate this way, along with Fitbit Air.

Will my Fitbit sleep show up in FITIV?

Yes. Connect Google Health in FITIV (More tab (•••), then Google Health) and FITIV reads the sleep your Fitbit syncs to Google Health.

Why don't I see a Recovery score with my Fitbit yet?

Recovery needs a few nights of sleep data to set your personal baseline. Make sure Google Health is connected in FITIV, and keep wearing your Fitbit overnight.

Why isn't my Fitbit Air heart rate showing up in FITIV?

Check that Share heart rate and Always visible are still on in Google Health, and that your band is selected in Workout Tracking. If it's not listed, open Discover & Manage Sensors again while your Fitbit Air is nearby.
